    The devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, based on the life and writings of Sr. Marie of St. Peter, was eventually approved by Pope Leo XIII in who established the devotion as an Arch-confraternity for the whole world. Because they were written back then. Though erroneous, they do write about life back then, but the books are fiction, so needs to be read with a grain of salt. All the dead sea scrolls would be considered History books, though some are fiction (apochryphal).
